Cannot install Training Videos because of message "Not activated"

Symptom:

Some users may not be able to install the ShoWorks Training Videos on certain machines, with a result of a message:

"These videos require that ShoWorks 2012 be ACTIVATED on the machine that you are viewing them on.

Please Activate your license of ShoWorks before installing these videos. You can do this by running ShoWorks and selecting Help>>Activate ShoWorks."

This message may occur in error even if ShoWorks is installed an activatated on the machine.

This only applies to ShoWorks 2012 (not ShoWorks 2016)

Solution:

In this case, the user must make a change in the Windows registry by following the instructions below.

Steps:

  1. Verify that ShoWorks is indeed activated by opening ShoWorks and selecting Help>About ShoWorks>Activate ShoWorks. If the resulting message box reads "Thank you for activating ShoWorks" then ShoWorks is Activated and you must proceed to the next step. If you are instead prompted to activate, follow the onscreen instructions and attempt to install the Training Videos after you have activated.
  2. Verify that there is a contradiction by going to the Windows Start button and selecting All Programs>ShoWorks 2012>ShoWorks 2012 Info. For Windows 8.x users, simply type "ShoWorks 2012 Info" from the start screen. This window should read that ShoWorks is "NOT Activated", thus indicating that there is a problem and the subsequent steps will resolve the problem. If it instead reads that ShoWorks is Activated, then there is a different problem and technical support should be contacted.
  3. Close all open windows and programs.
  4. Open the Windows Registery by going to Start, then typing "regedit" (Windows 8.x users can simply type "regedit" from the start screen.
  5. Navigate to the following yellow folder:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\15.0\ClickToRun\REGISTRY\MACHINE\Software\Wow6432Node\Gladstone Inc.\ShoWorks 2012
  6. Double-click on the red key string "Activation ID" and copy the long value by right-clicking on the value and selecting "Copy" (this should be a string value of capital letters and numbers, such as ABCDE12345FGHIJ67890KLMNO12345
  7. Navigate to the following yellow folder:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Gladstone Inc.\ShoWorks 2012
  8. In the area to the right (where other string values such as Fair Name, Serial Number, Service Plan Number, etc. are stored, right-click in the white area and choose New>String Value.
  9. Replace the word "New Value #1" with "Activation ID". Note, this must be spelled exactly "Activation ID" (no quotes).
  10. Double-click on the new key named "Activation ID" and paste the string that you copied in step 6.
  11. You may now install the training videos.
